Although the Forestburgh Playhouse uses union
actors in leading roles, and its own resident actors for most supporting and
ensemble roles, the Playhouse still often uses local non-union actors in our
productions. These actors may be children, high school or college
students, or adults with community theatre experience. Usually, although
not always, local actors are cast in smaller supporting roles or as part of the
musical ensemble. Since local actors are usually students or adults who
enjoy participating in the theatre as an avocation, they are usually not paid
other than having the experience of working with professionals and learning how
the professional theatre operates.
Local Actors in Main Stage Musicals
(A Chorus Line, Singin' in the Rain, Fame, Fiddler on
the Roof or Laughter on the 23rd Floor)
If an actor is cast in a show, he or she
must be
able to attend most rehearsals and all performances. Rehearsals are held
during the day, from 10 AM - 4 PM, on every day but Sunday and Monday for the 12
days preceding the opening. Most shows run for 2 weeks, 7 performances a
week. While most local actors would not be called for rehearsal every hour
of every day, and the Playhouse can work to some degree to accommodate a local
actor's schedule, potential actors with full time jobs may not be able to make
the commitment.
Local Actors in
Seussical
If a local teen actor is cast in
Seussical, he or she
must be able to attend all rehearsals and all performances.
Because Seussical rehearsal will be held in May
and June and may interfere with school, rehearsals
involving the teen ensemble will be scheduled on
weekends and evenings in order to accommodate the
student schedule. This means less rehearsal time,
so every rehearsal is important. An exact
rehearsal and performance schedule will be posted here
shortly. Performances will be presented every
Thursday and Saturday morning at 11 AM, starting
Thursday July 1 and ending Saturday, August 14, 2010.
The Playhouse is especially interested in adult
actors for character roles, and younger student actors who are good singers and
dancers for
musical ensemble roles.
Acting Opportunities for Children (12
and under)
For 2010, we will be looking for 2 young
girls (aged 8 -12) to play the two youngest daughters in
Fiddler on the Roof.
Local auditions are held at the Playhouse on May 29, 2010
from 10 AM - 12 noon for the
upcoming season. Check the
recent press
release for more information. |
