JUNE 16 - 21, 2009

(One Week Only!)

It’s the original “Dirty Dancing!”  2009 marks the Bicentennial of Sullivan County and we’re helping to kick off the summer celebration with this madcap musical trip back to the Golden Era of the Catskills, a more innocent time when young adults flocked to mountain retreats in the Catskills for a summer of fun, sun, friendship and, yes, love.  Wish You Were Here is an old fashioned romantic musical comedy, with a charming musical score featuring the wistful title song “Wish You Were Here” which topped the charts in 1952 with recordings by everyone from Eddie Fisher to Judy Garland to Bing Crosby.  You won’t want to miss this – it’s a show about our youth!

It’s all Elvis, all the time! Into a square little town in a square little state rides a guitar-playing roustabout who changes everything and everyone he meets in this hip-swiveling, lip-curling musical fantasy that'll have you jumpin' out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as "Heartbreak Hotel," "Jailhouse Rock," "Don't Be Cruel," “All Shook Up,” “Love Me Tender,” “Teddy Bear,” “It's Now or Never,” “Hound Dog,” and all the rest.  The songs are immortal; the dancing is incredible! Audiences of all ages will have time of their lives at all SHOOK up!

JUNE 23 - JULY 5,  2009

JULY 7 - 19, 2009

Epic, grand and uplifting, Les Misérables packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences all over the world. The story tells of one man's survival in the face of relentless persecution and the triumph of the human spirit. It is this powerful affirmation of the human spirit that has made Les Misérables the most popular musical theatre masterpiece in the world. The musical score, overflowing with melodies that are already standards - combined with Victor Hugo's classic novel of a student uprising in 19th century France - provides a compelling tale that continues to thrill audiences everywhere.  Don’t miss it!

Since its premiere in 1927, SHOWBOAT has never stopped moving! After three film versions, numerous Broadway and London revivals, and countless tours, SHOWBOAT is docking once more at the Forestburgh Playhouse. Spanning the years from 1880 to 1927, this lyrical masterpiece concerns the lives, loves and heartbreaks of three generations of show folk on the Mississippi, in Chicago and on Broadway.  And then there’s the Jerome Kern score:  “Old Man River,” “Can’t Help Lovin’ That Man of Mine,” “Bill, “You Are Love,” “Make Believe,” and more...  Can’t help lovin’ that musical SHOWBOAT!

JULY 21 - AUGUST 2, 2009

AUGUST 4 - 16, 2009

Don't miss the show that transformed how a generation feels about musicals and changed Broadway forever! Set in the East Village of New York City, RENT is about being young and learning to survive in NYC. It's about falling in love, finding your voice and living for today. Based on Puccini's La Bohème, and winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize, RENT has made a lasting mark on Broadway with songs that rock and a story that really resonates. Whether it's your 1st time or your 100th time, it's time you checked out RENT!  See what all the excitement is about!

AUGUST 18 - 30, 2009

It's 1962, and pleasantly plump Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire - to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star, but she must use her newfound power to vanquish the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate a TV network - all without denting her 'do! Don't miss Hairspray, Broadway’s musical-comedy phenomenon that inspired a major motion picture and won eight 2003 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. As The New York Times says, “If life were everything it should be, it would be more like Hairspray. It’s irresistible!”

SEPTEMBER 1 - 6, 2009

Doubt takes place in a Bronx Irish-Italian Catholic school in 1964 and is about the confrontation between conservative Sister Aloysius and liberal priest Father Brendan Flynn.  The real subject of the play, however, is the different interpretations people place on the same events, or their ideas of the same events, in a highly charged situation where it is necessary to make a decision in the face of incomplete information. What is the right course of action when you suspect that a child is being harmed, but you have no proof and know you probably never will? When is individual certainty unsupported by objective evidence a force for good, and when is it a force for evil? The genius of Doubt lies in engaging the audience in these questions while never resolving them – this is a play you will talk about long after the curtain goes down.
